I am still, still here. I promise.

Hi! I'm still here!

I've spent a little time here and there working on "Desideratum," but in May my husband approached me with the idea for a game that's spiralled out of control into a three act horror point and click game.

Scope creep is over with. We've designed all of the puzzles along the way, built the skeleton of the point and click portions of the game, and are now starting to work with an artist as we move into the actual creation part of the game.

It's called "Start Running" and it's definitely going to be out in 2023. I'm hoping the rest of the game is less than 2 more months of work, meaning a mid-September release, as long as I don't try to do too many game jams along the way.

Anyway, it just reminds me again why I'm glad my demo of "Desideratum" was not the final product. The amount I've learned since I compiled that... I went from barely being able to make choices for the player to creating and fully fleshing out a point and click setup in Ren'Py, meaning I could build "Desideratum" in Ren'Py. Along the way I tested Godot and the Adventure Game Engine, and while I like them, I'm not sure if I've stretched Ren'Py to its limits enough to move on.

I'm still getting better, so by the time I work on "Desideratum," the game I consider the story and ideas of to be something that's really important to pull off accurately, I'll be able to do everything I wanted to do, and more.

(Ed note: After publishing this, I realized it's not even been a year since I started actively working on game development. I know I started thinking about "Desideratum" in 2020, but I didn't even begin learning Ren'Py until September 2022, and I can't believe how far I've gone in this time!)
