October 2022 - updates

I've been silent on here for the past month or so, but I've been working a lot on the routing for the "Yes" route of Desideratum.

Before I started the demo, I had only written the first 2 full days, all of which were "pre-route split" and so there is only one path to take fully. I knew once I made it past that part, it was going to be another 7-10 days in game to get to the endings on one side. The multiple endings only split hard near the end of the story on "Yes" so once I had Days 3-7 done, Day 8 really was where the breaks were.

I wrote when I could, and some days did 2k words, some only 500, and some not at all. The last few days though, as I hit Day 8, I was able to push through and write 2k words on Tuesday and 4k words today to finish it up. I've got 20,000+ words now that I still feel like can have further exposition. I have given a lot more further backstory to both Catherine and Greg, and shown the player a lot about both of them. The hardest part wasn't the story but making up details like Greg being from Arizona and Catherine having previously been a bartender.

I also, in the last few weeks, got some further art of Catherine and Greg, and I'm very happy with how they look. I still have the same artist drawing Jane and Victor, and that art will be done in the next few weeks.

As I've been writing things I've been trying to visualize things like puzzles and more gameplay mechanics, and I've been seeking out and playing some Ren'Py games so I can see more ways the engine can be used. Shoutout to BAD END THEATER, which was extremely enjoyable.

I'm attaching a few images I've made just to look at and think about of Catherine in her room.
